The Government of Canada Is Embracing Clean Labels

The Government of Canada has some of the most stringent regulations for cosmetics in the world. All cosmetics sold in Canada must be safe to use, must not pose any health risk and must meet the requirements of the FDA and the Cosmetic Regulations (CR).

Under this legislation, no person can sell a cosmetic that has a substance that may cause injury to the health of the user when the cosmetic is used according to the directions on the label, or normal conditions of use.

Health Canada uses a post-market approach to regulate the safety of cosmetics in Canada. The Department does not approve cosmetic products or ingredients before they are made available on the Canadian market. A key component of the legislation requires the manufacturer or importer to notify Health Canada within 10 days after they first sell a cosmetic, providing information about the product such as its formulation, area of application, form and function.

Linum Care is the first certified Clean Label Product in skin care disclosing 100% of its ingredients and manufacturing clean and natural ingredients. Some Linum products may have up to 4% fragrance only. Linum Care works closely with chemists at the laboratory in Calgary in full compliance with Health Canada.

Clean Label means moving away from highly processed ingredients and toward whole ingredients from natural sources. The end goal is to be “Simply honest” about what’s in your product and to disclose 100% of the ingredients to allow consumers to make educated buying decisions.
